Flowers and fruit were two of Paul Cezanne's (1839-1906) favourite themes. What really sets this piece apart is the subtle colour modulation, which Czanne focuses on so much that the blooms of the flowers seems almost ignored. The way light falls on objects and the resulting changes of colour were major preoccupations for Czanne.
